As one of the biggest changes in the UK casino gaming industry, the introduction of fines for companies has become commonplace. This move has come recently thanks to the UK Gambling Commission bringing forward more aggressive rules against firms who play fast and loose with regulation. Recently, they’ve handed out a fair number of fines – and look set to hand out even more. In fact, £4.5m in fines have been handed out to four different firms, with the likes of InTouch Games Limited (£2.2m), Betit Operations Limited (£1.4m), MT Secure Trade (£700,000) and BestBet Limited (£230,972) being handed out alone.
This comes after an 18-month investigation into over 100 casino operators. Indeed, 45 of these have been told to make a change to their platform, while others have shown a big improvement over their last audit.
The change in how the UK Gambling Commission handles these fines and regulations has been a topic of significant interest for some time. Indeed, the Gambling Commission Executive Director, Richard Watson, said: “We have been working hard to raise standards in the online industry to ensure that gambling is crime-free and that the one in five people in Britain who gamble online every month can do so safely.
“But our work will not stop here. As a regulator, we will continue to set and enforce standards that the industry must comply with to protect consumers.”
Fans, then, can expect more fines to come in the near future.
