For some time now, casino slots in Sweden have been going through a pretty major reform. The main reason comes from the fact that the Swedish gambling watchdog has spent a lot of time bringing down some very important laws and regulatory changes. Despite having pulled a Unibet advertisement, advertising in Sweden was still dominated by online gambling advertisement.
Indeed, it was found that throughout 2019 the industry that was most prolific in their marketing was the gambling industry. It was found that Kantar Sifo pointed out that five gambling companies made up the top twenty companies for advertising expenditure in 2019 alone. Cherry AB was the leading gambling firm, who sat second on the list. They spend a whopping $95.3m in online advertising – just behind that of ICA, the supermarket.
Despite that, though, Cherry advertising spend was down by around 35% from 2018 to 2019. That’s quite a surprise, as the same was found for quite a few of the big names. Svenska Spel, though, had managed to boost its spend by around 17.4% from the previous year. This shows that there is not a uniform, industry-wide drop-off in spending.
Still, despite that drop-off in some quarters, there is no doubt that advertising spending is still a huge part of how casino companies in Sweden spend their resources. With new casino sites starting up all the time, we can expect more advertising money to come from the online casinos in Sweden long-term.
