As mentioned numerous times in recent history, there’s been a big growth in the Swedish gaming market. The regulation which took place seen some wholesale changes to the overall licensing of the national gaming scene. This has been somewhat confusing at times, with what feels like a daily introduction of new names onto the scene. The latest name to join the Swedish scene, then, is 888 Holdings.
888 Holdings PLC announced on 20th December that they have been awarded a license from the Swedish Gambling Authority to provide online casino, poker and sports experiences in Sweden. This is big news, as the Swedes grab another outstanding name with a fine reputation among the European casino gaming circuit.
Speaking about the move was 888 Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Itai Freiberger, who said: “Continued expansion in regulated markets is central to 888’s growth strategy, so we are delighted to have been granted a licence in Sweden, ahead of the market’s regulation coming into force in January 2019,
“During the first half of 2018, the vast majority of the group’s revenue was generated in regulated and taxed markets. We expect this to further increase over the coming years, as more markets regulate online gaming and we continue to leverage our core capabilities to gain market share,”
This kind of moves is often seen as significant, as newly regulated markets begin to take shape. With so many reputed names now on the Swedish market, there’s ample opportunity for variety.
